The girl's expression and stance makes me laugh. Overall I love this picture - though it seems to be lacking, I keep thinking about maybe speech bubbles? I think it's because I liken this almost to the page of a comic. The shading is utterly amazing, keep it up!

cheers for the comments, everyone. nothing helps me through the down-cycle of my manic depression like a complement or two :)

yo, Flabber: every morning i get up and thank god for photoshop, for without it i would be lost. getting the colours and details is just a matter of persistance...there's no actual talent involved, it's just a matter of changing things around until they look right. block big areas of colour in at the start and fiddle around with the colour/hue settings until they work together. after a while, you could try overlaying layers of transluscent colour over the top of your pic...it might help to unify them. i think. i'm making this up as i go along, so bare with me...

TJVerhagen, Phaeri: these are based on characters i've been messing around with for since i left college...occasionally i'll launch an efffort to make them into a comic strip or a picture book, but it always seems to fizzle out. i've got the ideas, it's just i lack the organisational skills to make them into a decent story...sigh. one day i'll crack it.

Artoonator: sneaky magician, eh? gives me an idea for a pic...;)

Looks great, the colour especially. I'm not a cartoon person (I mean, a person who likes cartoons) but I can still see this is very professionally done. How you get that colour graduation in 'shop I've no idea - I used it for the first time last week and now, when I get up each morning, I thank god for Painter! :)

painter = too many buttons! the few times i've attempted to use it i've been rapidly overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of controls and had to run off and hide in the corner.

i tend to use just a simple round paintbrush in Photoshop, plus the airbrush and gradient tool for block colours and basic shading.

cheers for the comments everyone. next week: something a little different...

Great work as always. I love the colors on the big reptile-looking guy (who seems to be smoking...?). I can totally feel the cold, scaley body just from looking at those colors.
